Our Story
Ay Caramba, Eh! was built on a dream that began years before our kitchen ever opened in Canada. The restaurant is inspired by a father whose life revolved around food, people, and hospitality. He worked during the golden era of Acapulco, when the city was an international hotspot for glamour and celebration. During that time, he had the honour of serving icons such as Elizabeth Taylor, Johnny Weissmuller, and Mexican film legend Cantinflas. He was known not only for his cooking, but for his warmth — turning simple traditional dishes into unforgettable experiences and making every guest feel like family.
He dreamed of opening a restaurant of his own, where he could bring the flavours of Mexico together with heartfelt hospitality and share that experience with Canadians. Sadly, he passed away in 2013 before seeing that dream come to life.
In 2016, Ay Caramba, Eh! opened its doors in his honour — bringing a little piece of Acapulco into every recipe and every guest interaction. Over the past decade, the taqueria has grown into a local favourite and earned national recognition, including being named among Canada’s top places to eat by Yelp. More importantly, it has built a loyal community of guests who return for vibrant Mexican flavours, welcoming service, and an experience that feels both exciting and comfortable.

As more traditional street-style taquerias open, many focus on familiar recipes served in a fast, street-food format. Ay Caramba, Eh! takes a different path. We honour authentic Mexican cooking prepared by Mexican hands, while thoughtfully adapting flavours, presentation, and hospitality to be welcoming and accessible to a diverse Canadian community. Our focus is on quality over quantity, consistency, and the full dining experience — offering a modern taqueria atmosphere where guests can enjoy bold Mexican flavours in a polished, comfortable, and inclusive setting.
